Jasper, Mules father, liked Badger too, but he was more stand-offish. He didn’t want Badger to touch him let alone love on him. Now Mule, he was just a baby and he liked it when Badger loved on him. That was interesting because Badger never loved on any of his other mules. Only Mule.
Mule was born in the Flint Hills of Kansas around 1860. He was the result of a cross between his Mammoth donkey father and a beautiful bay mare named Bonita. All mules have personalities of their own and Mule certainly created a name for himself as he grew from a baby to an adult outside of Kansas City, Kansas.
In this book, an old journal combined with a battered painting bring the story of Mule to life, 161 years after he lived.
Was Mule’s story a true part of the history of Kansas and Wyoming? I like to think so!
