Computer graphics is a sub-discipline of computer science which focuses on the techniques used for digital synthesis and manipulation of visual content. It is an interdisciplinary field which makes use of the principles of applied mathematics, image processing, computational geometry, computer vision and information visualisation. Interactive computer graphics is a sub-field of computer graphics which studies the methods employed for generating images and animations at interactive frame rates. It has various benefits over passive computer graphics such as higher image quality, lower design cost and more precise results. The basic components of an interactive computer graphics system are a frame buffer, a monitor and a display controller. Most of the topics introduced in this book cover new techniques and the applications of interactive computer graphics.
