From the world of the breakout novel Firebreak comes a new dystopic adventure of corporate cruelty, harrowing flight, and loyalty under duress. Two young modified soldiers make a daring escape from their prison lab only to flee into a cold city where a corporate civil war has made them penniless. With dwindling resources, medical issues, and time running out, the biggest threat to thier freedom is a sinister corporate handler trying to pit them against each other. Kornher-Stace exhibits immense fluidity and grace of prose.

Young SecOps operatives 06 and 22 were about to to be sent out for their first military engagement. Just a few years earlier they were child refugees of a corporate civil war; Stellaxis modified them into supersoldiers.
But 06 and 22 have escaped their prison barracks and entered a city they barely remember. In the dead of winter, they sleep in an abandoned shipping container scavenging for resources. Soon they discover they are celebrities: their images are used to market Stellaxis products.
The Director of the Steallaxis supersoldier program knows that 06 and 22 gone, where they are, and that she has no easy way of retrieving them. The Director knows that if she sends anyone after them, there’ll be a bloodbath–or at least a great deal of bad press.
But operatives’ days are numbered: side effects of augmentation have killed most of their fellow soldiers. 06 and 22 must make a terrible choice: to preserve their freedom, or each other.
Revisiting Nicole Kornher-Stace’s riveting Firebreak novels, Flight & Anchor is a deft cautionary tale of an all-too-plausible corporate reality.
