Early Generations of the Founders of Old Dunstable [Massachusetts]: Thirty Families

Ezra S Stearns

Dunstable was originally granted by Massachusetts and was a part of that province until 1741, when a revision of the province line transferred the greater part of the original grant to the jurisdiction of New Hampshire. The early families of this ancient town at the time it was established were living in Nashua, and parts of Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield and Merrimack in New Hampshire and in Dunstable and Tyngsborough in Massachusetts. At the beginning of King William’s War (1689-1697), a majority of the families of the settlement, in about 1695, fled from Dunstgable to the older and better fortified towns. In some instances it was a temporary absence, but in some cases the families did not return. This fact accounts for the brevity of the record for several of the families. This work includes references to approximately 2,000 individuals. The principal families addressed in this volume include: Acres, Beale, Blanchard, Cooke, Cromwell, Darbeyshire, French, Galusha, Gould, Harwood, Hassell, Honey, Lovewell, Lund, Marks, Parris, Perry, Read, Robbins, Searles, Smith, Swallow, Taylor, Temple, Tyng, Usher, Waldo, Warner, Weld, and Whiting. Softcover, (1911), repr. 2009, Index, 109 pp.
