Muriel Mandell
A Donkey Reads was adapted from a Turkish Folktale. It was written by Muriel Mandell. It features art by Andre Letria. A fanciful adaptation, lushly illustrated, of a Turkish fable tells the tale of a poor villager named Mustafo, a tyrannical Mongol ruler, and the 13th Century wiseman, Nasreddin Hoca, who is able to avoid the conqueror’s wrath by actually teaching a donkey to read! Nasreddin Hoca was a 13th Century teacher and imam in a village in Anatolia, now known as Turkey. His stories have lasted and delighted readers and listeners for over 700 years.
