Pearl’s supposed birth date, two years early, was a mistake only recently discovered - in her 80s. On her own at age 10, she was a chauffeur at 12, took in a disabled older sister at 16 and parented two teenaged siblings when she was 20. Only Pearl’s confidence could propel three women on a vacation trip by car from New England to Florida, when airlines were too new to be trusted. Only confidence could launch Pearl’s one-woman stand against a discriminatory corporate wage policy that paid men more than women for the same work - and only Pearl could convince the owner to change the policy!
