James just received Princeton’s Hodder Fellowship.

James composes the entirely of his poems in his head, then writes them down. This creative process allow him to recite all of his work from memory.

James used a Lowell Scholarship to travel in Japan, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Greece, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, and Germany
are based on the 2,000 pages of hand-written notes that James kept during his year of travel. The New Yorker
One of James’ poems, In Praise of Noise, is being set to music by the composer Aleksandra Vrebalov
Several of the poems in Charms Against Lightning are inspired by locations in and around Seattle: Distracted by an Ergonomic Bicycle and You Are the Canal Dividing a City are set in Fremont/Ballard, where Arthur lived for a while, and Independence describes the July 4th fireworks over Gasworks Park. Drinking Song and Drying Out also describe Seattle.
