Out of Poland: When the Best Revenge is to Have Survived
Jenny Harrison
For many years the leather suitcase lay under the house, hidden from the children. When opened it revealed letters and documents all in Polish. The present-day Siegel famil of Auckland, New Zealand, knew nothing about their Polish relatives, only that they had died during the Second World War. Their father, Naftali Siegel, had fled Europe to New Zealand in 1939 and worked here as a vet until his death in 1970. But he was forever haunted by the family he had left to die and the decision he made at the time. This is a Holocaust story but one of love, loyalty and heroism.
