Piscataway, one of New Jersey’s oldest settlements, was organized in the 1660s. Historically, the area’s appeal has come from its rich agricultural land and from its location as a port on the Raritan River. During the twentieth century, Piscataway transformed its rustic appeal into a modern suburb.
