A NOTE TO PARENTS: Amputation is horrific, but the wonder of it all, is that children adapt extremely well. They are more resilient and accepting than most adults. All they need is a structured and loving support system. They will also benefit tremendously by meeting others who have experienced similar tragedies. Please talk to your child/children and ask them questions. Allow them to ask you questions as well. Make sure to not forget the very young children, such as toddlers. Encourage them to continue to hug Mom or Dad (the amputee). Children are naturally curious. Show them photos of others with limb loss-interacting with their children.
