Toby Franklin was careful in business and even in love, but he was under orders, so what could he do when the respectable merchant to whom he was indentured told him to go as supercargo on the ship Adventure Galley, bound for Madagascar and commanded by none other than the notorious Captain Kidd?

Kidd, of course, was no ordinary pirate, and his character, as Toby was to discover, was not exactly as reported or recorded.
