On May 19, 2012, I stood in the 5800 wing of Loma Linda Children’s Hospital and watched our seventeen year old son Loukas breath his last earthly breath. His sudden home-going from cardiac arrest and the resulting confusion of soul and mind with the purposes of God’s plan has compelled me to write this book. For years I have sought to discover a Biblical theology of suffering so that I might comfort and counsel God’s people under my pastoral care. On the day my son died, that Biblical theology changed from theory to reality. It is my hope and prayer as you read these pages that you will take comfort in the eternal truth that for believers in Jesus Christ, there is no senseless suffering that they will ever experience during their journey to glory. No, in fact, there are eternal purposes that God intends to accomplish through the suffering we experience and the evil we endure.
