Joanna Baillie was a 19th century Scottish poet and playwright. Baillie’s youth was marked by a passion for the outdoors. Joanna Baillie was anxious that all her works with the exception of her theological pamphlet be collected into one book. Her first poem, Winter Day, depicted the winter sights and sounds in the neighborhood of Long Calderwood. Poems, &c. Wherein It Is Attempted To Describe Certain Views Of Nature And Of Rustic Manners; And Also, To Point Out, In Some Instances, The Different Influence Which The Same Circumstances Produce On Different Characters was her first book of poems and was published in 1790.
