Organizational Behaviour in Construction
Anthony Walker
The characteristics of the construction industry and its component organisations are distinctive. The members of the professions which make up the different arms of the industry tend to have particular ‘personalities’, leading to specific behaviours which in turn influence the way their organisations, and themselves as individuals, collaborate on construction projects. There is a substantial literature on Organisational Behaviour in mainstream management, which describes these interactions, but this approach has not been applied specifically to the construction industry in anything other than high level research papers. It is of fundamental importance in the way the various organisations involved in a construction project interact and as such is of interest to all students on building, construction and related courses. Organisational Behaviour in Construction addresses the behaviour of people within the different organisations which make up construction projects and how this affects the way in which their firms perform their specific contribution to a project and their contribution to a project as a whole. Many case studies drawn from the professions ensure relevance to the day-to day operation of the industry.
