Nigel has sold his boating business in the English Lakes and is busy writing poetry, however Judith, his wife, is suffering from bi-polar disorder and is drinking far too much for her owm, and his, good.

Meanwhile Anna, in Athens, has been engrossed in her painting of Pygmalion that she has not realised that her husband should have returned home ages ago. Then she gets a phone call.

Their individual circumstances become intolerable and they each need to find a way out. Neither is in search of a fresh relationship but they find themselves alone and vulnerable at a critical time.
