Doozy Coal brought up in New York lives with his family in an apartment building that houses low to moderate income families. Unsure of what career to take he ends up taking tap and jaz classes and finds out that he is very good. He takes dancing classes but leaves because of the need to bring in extra income for the family so he works part-time for Dexter's Restaurant which begins his musical and dancing career as well as other dancers.
