Larimore remains the most triumphant kingdom in the land under the rule of King Zachariah, but what goes on within its very walls tells an entirely different tale. Guards harass the people. Children go hungry. Meanwhile, the King prepares his only son and heir, Prince Leon, to choose between all of the neighboring kingdom's daughters to take as a wife so that he may take over the rule of Larimore once the King is gone. Unsatisfied with the way things are being run and with the options for a wife, Prince Leon dreams of making changes to the kingdom for the better of the people. On the other side of the wall, Vera McLain, the eldest daughter of two peasants with no great love for her,sees first-hand what is happening in the streets, but does not believe that anyone of royal blood would ever be moved to do anything about it. When the two are caused to meet by their mutual defense of an injustice going on in town, will they be able to save Larimore from itself as well as from an evil looming withing its gates?
