In They Cried to the Girls, a person who calls himself Spider tries insincerely to acknowledge his worthlessness and the predatory nature of his existence, but he cannot kill himself because he enjoys too much being near and in awe of his God-like spouse Rivet. This is an experimental literary novel, unconventional in form and in that it goes deeply into the characters' inner lives, planes sharply and dizzily studious of suffering and longing that is implicit and nearly inarticulable even when as persons they seem not differentiated from the world.
