Sir Charles Whitehead, Kt., F.L.S., F.G.S. (1834 - 1912) was born in Kent and educated at Tonbridge School. He gave up farming in 1879 but continued his work with the Royal Agricultural Society which he had joined in 1857. He wrote many papers and reports for the Royal Agricultural Society's Journal particularly on market gardening, hop cultivation, fruit farming, potato culture and the agriculture of Kent.
