At a meeting of the National Work Commission of the Secular Franciscan Order, I suggested the need for a book on a theology of the corporation. Thus began the long road on this project. After fifty years of working in the heavy earth-moving industryabuilding roads, mining, land clearing, agriculture and dam building as operator, mechanic, instructor, supervisor, manager and consultantaI was incorporated and worked for some Fortune 50 corporations, the Agency for International Development and World Bank in the USA, Central and South America and Indonesia. Work and the corporate world are no strangers to me. In the search for a better world, the spiritual life is too often neglected. Teaching operators, mechanics and managers, I also applied the social teachings of the Church. I am satisfied that the corporation has a moral conscience. Hopefully, the book shows how that theological dimension can shine forth.
