I was born in the north of England at the end of the Second World War. My mum was from Lancashire and my father was in the Royal Norwegian Air Force. After the war, we moved to Oslo, where we lived until we emigrated to New Jersey. I was about twelve at the time. I was naturalized a few years later, attended school in Cranford, NJ, and went to college at Upsala, NYU, and Union College. I received a BA in English from Upsala, and helped form the countryas first FreeForm radio station, WFMU. Following that, I moved to NYC and began working at Pacifica Radioas New York outlet, WBAI. I was their weekend news anchor and a public affairs producer. In 1972, I was made Pacifica Radioas Washington Bureau Chief. I covered the Watergate Hearings and even interviewed Jimmy Carter in the Oval Office. I also interviewed Hurricane Carter in a jail cell at Rahway State prison. They are two of the most impressive human beings Iave ever met. I went on to free-lance for the BBC, CBC, and NPR. I won the Armstrong Award for series on the media and was, at one point, named, by Broadcast Magazine, the atop radio producer in the country.a I had two children and became a full-time dad. During that time, as a way of paying the mortgage, I began selling my paintings. My work is still hanging on the walls of several U.S. Embassies and was exhibited at the Corcoran, the IMF, and the Italian Embassy, among other venues. Once the kids were grown, I went back to school, got a masteras in education, and began teaching. It was like being the primary parent again. Then, I lost my leg and I have, since that time, lived disabled and destitute.
