Jabez Allies
- Jabez Allies appears to be the first antiquarian to collect information and describe Roman finds from Kempsey and all subsequent information has been based on his work. He describes the extent of the earthwork, as he is distressed at the destruction of parts of it by gravel digging in his day. Great alterations being occasionally made at the site of the Kempsey camp, I will endeavour to give an account of it, as it appeared in 1840, fearing that in a few more years every vestige of it will have passed away. The Roman finds at Kempsey consisting of pottery, brooches, bones and a coin of Nero are described by Jabez Allies as coming from burial cists dug out of gravel beds at Kempsey in 1835 and 1836.
