Stratford Bust and the Droeshout Engraving
George Greenwood
- This work is written as a reply to M.H. Spielman’s work entitled The Title-Page of the First Folio of Shakespeare’s Plays-A Comparative Study of the Droeshout Portrait and the Stratford Monument. Greenwood argues that the preposterous differences between the present bust of Shakespeare at Stratford-on-Avon and the engraving of the bust in Sir William Dugdale’s Warwickshire cannot be explained by the alleged inaccuracy of Sir William or by the inaccuracy of the engraver of his sketch.
