Little Fadette was originally published in 1849. It forms part of George Sand’s series of pastoral novels that evoke the peasant world of the author’s home region of Berry. The series also includes The Devil’s Pool, Francois the Waif, and The Bagpipers. Little Fadette is a coming of age tale that tells the story of Fadette, destitute granddaughter of the village witch, and her well-off neighbours, the twins Landry and Sylvinet.
