The Local Government Service
J. H. Warren
First Published in 1952, The Local Government Service describes in general terms the character and extent of the tasks which the body of public servants employed by the local authorities is called upon to perform. Part I comprises a general survey; Part II studies in greater detail the character and work of the agencies which are shaping the service - the organizations of employers and staff, the Whitley machinery, and the local authority in its capacity as an individual employer; while Part III deals with the more important aspects and issues of qualification and training in a way which could not have been attempted in part I without impeding the narrative.
This is a must read for students of public administration and political science.
