When a dreadful rainstorm threatens to flood a small town library, the library books ban together to come up with a plan to save themselves from drowning. After searching within their pages and a passionate discussion of dead-end solutions, the books realize they cannot move themselves to higher ground or protect their paper pages from the flood. Filled with fear of their impending doom, the books are at a loss. Their anxious silence is soon broken by a soft old voice coming from a far away corner shelf. Spooked, the books look up to the voice and they discover a mysterious Ancient Book living amongst them called The Ancient One. After some disastrous flying lessons, the books must learn to cooperate just as the storm peaks. The howling wind propels a tree branch through a window and the flood begins. As the floodwater rises higher and higher, the books struggle with their new wings - will they make it to safety?
