Why Does Man Suffer?: Biblical Perspective
Leslie M John
DESCRIPTION This book is based on the teachings of the Bible. Among several important teachings, the teaching on suffering is vividly laid out in the New Testament. Suffering started in the Garden of Eden, when man transgressed God’s command, and the man and the woman were cast out of the Garden, and lost fellowship with God. Man has choice to live for God transforming his old nature and becoming a new creature in the Lord, or choose to live lewd and vulgar life. The consequences of living outside the purview of the teachings of the Bible are very serious. Unless man chooses to have right thinking and live a good and pleasing life he would end up in suffering. Suffering may be either of physical, or of mental, but living a sinful life will surely lead to suffering. Bible admonishes to rejoice when suffering overtakes us for right reasons. It is such suffering that causes man to come closer to God. Because God is love, He sent His one and only Son, Lord Jesus Christ into this world to save mankind from perishing and to reconcile them to the Father. When Man suffers from either pain, loss, or sickness, he will no longer have inclination to sin anymore. Suffering overtakes man’s capacity of sinning. Lord Jesus said… Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven . (Matthew 5:10) Suffering for the right cause brings blessings, while suffering for wrong reasons brings disaster in life. There is a great difference between suffering for the right cause and suffering for criminal activities. Suffering for illegal causes and feeling sorry over such actions would not absolve one from being punished in this world, or in the world to come.
