Now the tall Australian doctor, the stoic engineer, the visual artist, the bumbling surfer, the affable secretary, the gregarious restaurateur, the elderly tinkerer and the reticent school teacher finally knew of the precariousness of their peculiar situation: they were some of the very few remaining members of the species. More alarming still was the creeping realization that they were now solely responsible for the future of all of mankind.
