This is the third book in the Rice Kings Series; The Lowcountry . The aristocratic rice planters also faced political challenges from the mostly white population of the back-country of South Carolina. They had thrown off the yoke of the British patricians and were determined to never become subservient to an American version of aristocracy. It was a time of lawlessness, but also great opportunity. It is against this backdrop, the rebuilding of South Carolina’s economy and political turmoil, that our story is set.
