Rose Perica Mofford was the the first woman governor of Arizona. Born in Globe, Arizona, and raised in Six Shooter Canyon, Governor Mofford acted as an interim governor when impeachment proceedings began against Governor Evan Mecham on February 7, 1988. In April 1988, she was officially appointed as the first female and the eighteenth Governor of the State of Arizona.
