The Shrub Chronicles

Gene R Poschman

A satire of the modern age of the Twentieth Century. The year, 2000, when the last presidential election occurred for the century. George W Bush was to fail to get the popular vote. He would win the election in the electoral college by carrying Florida, the state of which his brother was Governor. The fault of George Bush being elected can’t entirely be placed at the feet of possible collusion between a Republican candidate and his Republican brother, who was a Governor who promised to deliver Florida to him. In fact Al Gore and Ralph Nader both had a hand in getting George W. Bush elected. Al Gore fearing that the sexual scandal tied Bill Clinton would taint his candidacy, distanced himself from Bill Clinton. Al Gore forgot that if Bill Clinton had been able to run for a third term, he would surly have been re-elected. While Clinton was not popular with Republicans, he was popular with the rest of the country. The issue with Ralph Nader was simply that because he couldn’t win the Democratic nomination for President, he would do what ever he could to keep the Democratic nominee from being elected. He succeeded in being a spoiler and proving that you do not have to be a child to be a brat. While George W. was a disaster for the nation as a whole, he was a gift from heaven for comedians. Be careful what you wish for it may come true. The cover shows that GW had desires to be a great king. Of course, he came up short.
