Rex’s Mission is to cure Erica of the hang-ups of childhood abuse, such as fear of being beaten or touched. His method is systematic desensitisation therapy - exposing the subject to increasing doses of what she fears most. Results are slow in coming, but Rex is not a man to be easily discouraged. He believes that the Lord has aid this difficult task upon him. When Erica falls completely into his power, he sees that his duty is to be as strict as necessary to achieve success.
