A Regency romp featuring Lydia Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, now a widow determined to see the world, catch a rich husband and have as much fun as possible. After adventures with the Prince Regent, Lord Byron, and a handsome highwayman (see Who Needs Mr Darcy?) she is en route for Brazil to join the Portuguese Court in exile. As a lady in waiting to a princess she catches the eye of the heir to the throne with serious and not so serious consequences. Accompanied always by her faithful maid and partner in crime, Adelaide, she eventually returns to Pemberley to annoy Mr Darcy, travelling via the West Indies where she snares a new husband who is not what he seems.
After various misfortunes she and her husband embark for India. A shipwreck, an affair with an Indian prince. lots of jewels and notoriety, Lydia and Adelaide return to Europe alone. Paris is in her sights. She hopes to meet the great violinist. Paganini, lover of women and believed to have sold his soul to the devil. What could possibly go wrong?
