History and Traditions of Rarotonga is the earliest known literary work in the Cook Island Maori language. Its author, Te Ariki Tara “Are, was a pre-eminent scholar who recorded the historical traditions of his people in the mid-nineteenth century. This volume allows the historical and literary importance of the work to be appreciated.
