The papers in this collection were, with one exception, given at the triennial conference of the International Association for the Study of Anglo-Irish Literature held in St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Ireland, in 1979. The theme of the conference was the place of literature in a changing Ireland, and to this end the speakers’ papers covered various aspects of this important subject.
