This volume of Milton Studies contains ten essays that cover many of Milton’s writings. The essays on the prose analyse the aesthetic subtexts of the polemical tracts, identify Milton’s adaptation of the diatribe as a generic paradigm, trace the influence of Jeremiah on the voice of the polemicist, and highlight Milton’s use of Roman republicanism as the philosophical framework of the English Commonwealth.
