For 23 years David Belgum was the Director of the Department of Pastoral Services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Supervisor or Clinical Pastoral Education. He also served on the faculty of the University of Iowa’s School of Religion and College of Medicine, teaching such courses as Religion and Personality, Medical Ethics, and Death and Dying. An ordained Lutheran pastor, Belgum earned degrees from the University of Minnesota and Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary prior to earning his Ph.D. from Boston University. He has written over a dozen books and many journal articles.
