Family Therapy and Systemic Practice: Readings on Child Protection, Clinical Techniques and Empirical Foundations

Alan Carr

Family Therapy and Systemic Practice is a collection of 20 essays about practice in family therapy and systemic consultation. It is written by the author of the treatment manual: Positive Practice: A Step by Step Guide to Family Therapy which was published in 1995. The present volume aims to answer a number of questions which arose from the first book, including the way in which Positive Practice evolved, the clinical context within which the practice occurred, and the ideas that informed the approach. The papers fall into three broad groupings. The first group deals with systemic consultation and child protection related issues. The second is concerned with specific clinical techniques for use mainly with multiproblem families. The remaining papers focus on empirical research of particular relevance to the practice of family therapy.
