Petrus Nakskow
This text is a compilation of sermons from the Danish Lutheran theologian Petrus Sachariae Nakskow written in the first half of the seventeenth century. In these sermons, one finds a clear exposition of Lutheran orthodoxy, as the author does not diverge from the dogmatic developments of Lutheran scholastics in Germany during this era on any significant point. Yet, as a pastor, Nakskow explains these ideas in a way that is accessible and practical in the life of the average congregant. Each of these sermons begins with Scripture, and using the Scriptural text, Nakskow explains the distinctive characteristics of Lutheran doctrine. Nakskow’s writing makes it apparent than one need not divide doctrine from practice, as he combines robust orthodox theology with pastoral care. This edition is a revision of the Magens translation of 1754. It has been updated for maximum readability for the contemporary reader.
