Fuller Kreppe and Milo Munroe meet on their first day at Anthony Wayne High School. It is the beginning of their senior year and they become best friends. Their modus operandi is diametric, but their character and integrity are parallel, thus providing the inner strength and determination to help each other through their trials and tribulations from their first meeting to graduation.

Fuller is a misfit intellect with enormous potential and the capacity to rise above the torment leveled at him by Rico and Snake, the school bullies. Milo on the other hand, at the tender age of fifteen, conveys movie star looks and plays trumpet professionally in a ballroom orchestra. Fuller and Milo have no peers.

Fellow Student, Calley O'malley, isFuller’s love interest, while Milo set his sights on his homeroom teacher, Miss Hatcher. Fuller becomes good friends with Alma, the hotel prostitute, where Milo plays in the ballroom orchestra. She is his mentor with worldly experience and guidance to help him through his struggles in maintaining an ongoing relationship with Calley. These two love affairs navigate the emotional storms of their senior year.
