The Expeditionary Culture Field Guides (ECFGs) are pocket-size handbooks packed with invaluable cultural information. The guides are designed to help US forces achieve mission success in culturally complex environments. The fundamental information contained within will help you understand the cultural dimension of your assigned location and gain skills necessary for success.

This Guide consists of 2 Parts:

Part 1 Culture General provides the foundational knowledge needed to operate effectively in any global environment with a focus on the Baltic States.

Part 2 Culture Specific describes unique cultures features of Latvian society. It applies culture-general concepts to help increase your knowledge of your deployment location. This section is designed to complement other pre-deployment training.

Audience: Primary audience are members of the military to be deployed to Latvia to prepare for missions. Military members due to serve in similar cultures (Estonia, Eastern European), and U.S. citizens considering travel across the region may also be interested in this publication. Middle School students and upper grade students may find this cultural information helpful for research papers and essays for social and global studies classroom projects and assignments. An appropriate reference for middle school, high school, public, community college, and academic libraries for student and patron research.
