Following a series of disasters in the Mediterranean the Council agreed to consider emergency relocation and resettlement measures intended to assist member states on the frontline of the migrant crisis. The Committee understands that the Government is mind not to opt into the proposed Council Decision in the area of international protection for the benefit of Italy and Greece. Nevertheless they believe that it is in the United Kingdom’s interest to take part in the negotiation of this proposal, and that, should an amended or a new proposal be brought forward the Government should reconsider its position
