Trouble Man (Vinyl)
Marvin Gaye
Recorded as the soundtrack to the 1972 Blaxploitation film of the same name, Trouble Man sits between Marvin's masterpiece What's Goin'On (1971) and Let's Get It On (1973).
While many people will be familiar with the genius of Curtis Mayfield's Super Fly and Isaac Hayes' Shaft from the same era, Trouble Man remains highly underrated and well worth investigating if cool 70's sountracks are your bag. Largely instrumental, it was the only film score Marvin ever recorded. It hangs together beautifully, weaving together street funk, hand claps, moody Moog, horns - it has it all. All with the added bonus of a gatefold cover featuring Marvin in all his supercool glory. Well worth the price of admission.
