The book is reveals dedication of volunteers of Andhra Library movement, a part of Indian Independence Movement. Inspired by leaders, ten thousand libraries were initiated around 1919 in Telugu speaking areas. Andhra Granthalayam Kurnool can be described as one of the jewels, as it served readers 25 years before and 25 years after Independence. It was started, financed and maintained by one individual.
Muchukota Venkataramaiah can be described as personification of definition of "volunteer" by Mahatma Gandhi. Sri.Muchukota Venkataramaiah (1894-1972) was a multifaceted personality-a nationalist, founder of Andhra Granthalayam, Scout and Drawing Master, a Telugu Pandit, a mellifluous singer and a true Gandhi an-all rolled into one. Sri.Venkataramaiah refused to accept the financial grant offered by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and ran it as a private library till his death.
