As we all know there are some things in life we just can't control. However we can control how we respond to these situations. In 2008 I got pregnant with my first born, Reyvon. My pregnancy was difficult because I kept going into premature labor. When I was about 28 weeks pregnant doctors noticed my son had a bleed in his brain. I was heartbroken! How could this happen to my unborn child? What did I do wrong? So many unanswered questions. It wasn't until Reyvon was born doctors told me his bleed is called intraventricular hemorrhage caused by a stroke. The combination of the bleed and the stroke caused weakness on the right side of his body. I continued to ask myself the same questions for years. However, eventually I realized those unanswered questions I had, didn't matter. What did matter was the way I responded to the diagnosis. So, I made a promise to my son. My promise was to make sure he isn't treated any differently from other children. Reyvon played almost every sport and although he struggled, Reyvon persevered. He'd often come home sad that he couldn't do one of the drills he learned in practice and want to quit. But then he'd keep practicing till he got it! He'd get so exciting and all I could do was be happy for him. Watching my son go through the process and seeing him push humbled me. "I Can Keep My Balance Now" is based on a true experience my son had as a child. There are so many children out there that face similar struggles. This book is meant to help them understand and overcome things that they cannot control.
