The Vocation is a fictional story based on true life dramas. It emanates from areas in Southern Africa which have no boundaries except for towns, farms, territories, suburbs and villages. In this story, the European nations' rule over African territories (colonialism) - The Partition of Africa (Berlin Conference of 1884-1885) - did not happen. Although there is European influence in that technology, medical practices, railways, roads, industry and housing infrastructure have been developed, they coincide within an existing traditional and cultural society. In all, there is no race recognition - people coexist.
Although there are recognisable town names, the places mentioned within the areas are fictional. Character names included in the story have been coincidentally selected. Veridia is barely weaned when she loses her mother. Her father's ambitious decision leaves her vulnerable. Hena's past haunts her...does it ruin her future? The story sums up what is lost and then regained and through this, it illustrates the lessons from life one can learn and apply for one's own purpose and success.
