Dazu wird uns Daniel vorgestellt, der trotz einiger Angriffe an seinem Gott festhielt. Die zahlreichen im Buch enthaltenen Visionen sind entstanden aus den Konflikten zwischen den Weltmachten des Alten Orients und dem alten Israel. Zugleich war das Buch auch immer Anlass von allerhand Berechnungen und Spekulationen. Das Buch wurde in spaterer Zeit verfasst. Es war die Zeit der Makkabaer (175 bis 134 v.Chr.).
