A Collection of Tibetan Proverbs and Sayings: Gems of Tibetan Wisdom and Wit

Tibetan proverbs and sayings (gtam-dpe) are a rich source of often ironically and wittily formulated natural wisdom. Some of the sayings come from Tibet’s pre-Buddhistic times, and others were transmitted from Buddhist thought and teachings. Most of them mirror the world and experience of the Tibetan folk. The sayings are an indispensable tool for anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of Tibetan mentality and the character of the Tibetan people. Cuppers and Sorensen have rendered a great service to Tibetan studies by publishing this collection of proverbs and sayings and we look forward to further volumes which they plan to publish.
