Die deutsche Sprache entwickelte in der DDR eine besondere Pragung. In der offiziellen Sprache wurden neue Worte entwickelt, um z.B. Lehnworte aus dem Amerikanischen nicht verwenden zu mussen (z.B. Wurfrotationsflachkegel fur Frisbee-Scheibe). Es wurden Begriffe erfunden, um das Leben im real existierenden Sozialismus zu beschreiben wie z.B. Arbeiterkorrespondent oder Passowmethode. Ebenso erhielten eine Vielzahl von Woertern wie Auflage, Angestellter, Oberlehrer und Jugendfoerderung in der DDR eine eigene Bedeutung.
