V.W. Spencer comes to us from a small town in northeastern Arkansas. Although this is her first published book it is by no means her first work. Writing has always been her first form of communication-with it she expresses her hopes and dreams, her disappointments and frustrations, even her victories and failures. By recording her life’s experiences, howbeit by poem or prose, her heart’s desire is that someone will be helped, comforted, uplifted, and even inspired by her work. Her love for the written word came early in life. By the time she was nine years old visiting the library was her favorite thing to do. She wrote her first poem when she was in the fourth grade. By the time she reached junior high school, she had written her first play. It was entitled, Hell in Class , and it depicted their all black class’s first experience of being taught by a white instructor. This was before the mandated total integration. Her love affair with the written word just continued to grow and it was for this reason that her first degree was an AA in English. She went on to amass several hours in journalism and although that degree was not completed she did complete a BA degree in Christian Education.
